Brain Tumor Warning Signs You Should Not Ignore
Warning signs that need prompt evaluation include a new or progressively worsening headache, a first-ever seizure in an adult, persistent morning vomiting, sudden weakness or numbness on one side, vision or speech changes, and new personality or memory problems. These do not always mean a tumour, but they should not be ignored.
Red-flag symptoms
- Headache that is new, worsening, or worse in the early morning
- A first seizure in adulthood
- Repeated unexplained vomiting
- Weakness, numbness or clumsiness on one side
- Blurred or double vision, or loss of part of vision
- New difficulty with speech, balance or memory
- Marked personality or behaviour change
Why early evaluation matters
Most of these symptoms have causes other than a tumour. But when a tumour is present, earlier diagnosis usually means more treatment options and better planning.
What to do next
If you notice one or more progressive warning signs, consult a neurosurgeon. An MRI or CT scan, alongside a clinical examination, will clarify the cause.
When to seek urgent care: A sudden severe headache, first seizure, sudden weakness, confusion or loss of consciousness needs emergency care immediately.
